Mendocino English Country Dance (MECD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that exists to further public understanding and enjoyment of English Country Dance by providing opportunities for the teaching and practice of English Country Dance and related folk dance forms, and related cultural arts.
We accomplish this mission primarily by holding monthly public dance events that include introductory instruction in English Country Dance figures and terminology and feature a 10-piece all-volunteer orchestra. Between these monthly events, smaller events are held in private homes where a core group of experienced dancers explore and perfect dancing repertoire too advanced for the public events, sometimes with live music from a smaller volunteer ensemble, and other times with recorded music.
Participants in MECD dance events come from a wide cross-section of the local community: educators, physicians, truckers, musicians and artists dance together, ranging in age from schoolchildren to grandparents.
Mendocino English Country Dance (MECD) is a tax-exempt nonprofit registered with the IRS under IRC Section 501(c)(3), and qualifies as a Public Charity under IRC Section 509(a)(2). Contributions to MECD are deductible under IRC Section 170. MECD is also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under Section 2055, 2106, or 2522.
