Help Dances Continue!

The monthly English Country Dances are brought to you by Mendocino English Country Dance (MECD), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2022 to continue the 20-year tradition of monthly public English Country Dance events on the Mendocino Coast started in 2003 by Mickie and Beth Zekley. MECD rents the hall, covers ongoing expenses, hires and houses guest callers, promotes the dances, and produces occasional learning opportunities that go beyond the introductory lesson offered at each dance.

English Country Dance is the dance form popular in England and America in the seventeenth, eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and is the basis for modern contra and square dance. The combination of beautiful music from those eras, with simple, nondemanding, shared movement, can transport one through time. No partner or special garb required; smooth-soled non-marking shoes enhance the experience.
